Tina Made A Painting

For most of my childhood, when anyone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, my response was, “An artist.” This was before I realized the adjective “starving” typically accompanies the noun “artist.” In third grade, I abandoned that dream for a more feasible one. A professional baton twirler. Not to be confused with a regular baton twirler, which I already was (and a terrible one at that).

But anyway. I recently revisited my childhood artist dream when I went to Wine & Canvas. It’s basically a 3-hour guided painting class with alcohol available for purchase. Wine + paint + high backless stools= great potential for fun.

Each person in the class paints the same painting. The night I went was a painting called “Fireflies,” an ethereal (or maybe creepy) water + moon + grass scene.

The result, especially as compared to the original (pictured here), confirms that painting was never my forte. (Nor is listening to instructions, apparently, as at one point during the night the instructor had to bring me 423 wet paper towels to wipe off a huge section of the canvas I had painted the wrong color. Oops.)

To find a Wine & Canvas location near you (they’re all over the U.S.!), check out their website. It’s a great place for a date night or a girls’ night out. Tip: Wait for a Groupon or LivingSocial deal– they come by pretty frequently!
